GLASGOW – Team Nigerian Para-power lifters Esther Onyema and Lovelyn Obiji on Saturday, set two new world records on the opening day of the Para-power lifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland.
Onyema and Obiji won gold medals in the women’s lightweight and heavyweight class respectively to set the records.
Onyema lifted a weight of 136.0kg to set the new world record in the lightweight, while Obiji lifted 122.4kg to set the new world record in the heavyweight class. [eap_ad_1] Another Nigerian Bose Omolaye took silver in the heavyweight class behind Obiji after she lifted a weight of 113kg, while Joyce Njuguna won bronze with 68.6kg.
Natalia Blake of England got silver in the lightweight class with a total lift of 100.2kg, while Sakina Khatun picked the bronze for India with a lift of 88.2kg.
Nigeria is currently placed eight on the medals table with nine gold, seven silver and 14 bronze. (NAN)
