Teenager bags 30 days imprisonment for Indian hemp

Jos  –  A Federal High Court sitting in Jos on Monday sentenced an 18-year-old man, Thomas Friday, to 30 days imprisonment for possession of Indian hemp.

Friday, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was caught with 75.9 grammes of Cannabis sativa, commonly called, Indian hemp.

He was arrested on Sept. 26 in Shendam, Jos and arraigned on Nov. 6.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Sarah Oketola, called one witness, Etsu Bamshi, an Exhibit Keeper with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The witness tendered the following exhibits, packing of substance form, certificate of test analysis, scientific aid form and the accused person’s confessional statement.

The Counsel to the convict, Miss E. A. Bulus, pleaded for the mitigation of sentence.

After listening to both parties, Justice Lewis Allagoa, sentenced the convict to 30 days imprisonment without an option of fine. (NAN)
