Ikorodu (Lagos) – A teenager on Friday, appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Ikorodu, Lagos for allegedly stealing a conduit wire worth N16, 000.
The police charged the 17 year-old-boy, whose address was not provided, with two counts of theft and breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Jan. 4, at about 1. 30 a.m. along Ijede road area of Ikorodu.
Iberedem said the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
According to Iberedem, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 168(1) (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while section 287 of the criminal law of the state stipulates three years for stealing, section 168 of same law prescribes three month imprison or N15,000 fine for causing breach of peace.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate A.F. Azeez, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum.
Azeri adjourned the matter until July 7 for mention.
