LAGOS – An 18-year-old, Hameed Isiaka, who allegedly extorted money from motorists, on Monday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, living at No. 20, Edu Compound, Epe, is standing trial on a two-count charge of extortion and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, ASP Austin Orji, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 27 on Lekki-Ajah expressway in Lagos.
He said that Isiaka and others still at large, on the said date, obstructed traffic flow on the road while extorting money from motorists. [eap_ad_2] Orji said that the offences committed contravened sections 299 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 299 prescribes three years imprisonment for anyone found liable of extortion.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, granted the accused N20, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi adjourned the matter to Oct. 27 for mention. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
