Lagos – An 18-year-old teenage boy, Mohamed Abdulazeez, was charged with stealing a cooking gas cylinder worth N19,500, on Thursday at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Abdulazeez, who lives in Dopemu, Agege Area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 17 at No. 1, Mufutau Shoetan St., Dopemu Agege, Lagos State.
Eruada said the accused stole the cooking gas cylinder from the compound of Mrs Abiodun Shoetan where it was kept.
“The complainant, Mrs Abiodun Shoetan, caught the accused while he was trying to escape with the gas cylinder and handed him over to the police,” he said.
Eruada said the offence contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.
