ABUJA – Gloria Ekwempu, the Secretary, Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), said the federation had concluded plans to organise Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) national open championship.
Ekwempu stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
She said the tournament would hold before the commencement of the National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for Nov. 23 to Dec 7 in Calabar.
“The NPA national open championship is going to hold in Abuja and it will be sponsored by the NPA.
“The aim of this tournament is to groom and enhance the skills of our players; we want to organise frequent championships to expose and keep players fit.
“Though, the date has not been fixed, it is going to be held before the sports festival and we are expecting at least 200 players for the tournament. [eap_ad_1] “There will also be prize money for the winners that will be announced later,’’ she said.
Ekwempu urged the various states to send players for the championship, saying it would be an opportunity to identify their capabilities before the national festival.
“ It will be good for the states to send their players to provide an opportunity for them to know their capabilities.
She said the tournament would be a good training ground for the players because they would meet during the sports festival. (NAN)
