ABUJA – The Senate on Wednesday summoned the Service Chiefs over the increasing Boko Haram attacks in northeastern part of the country.
The Service Chiefs are expected to brief the lawmakers on the state of affairs in the Northeast and the effectiveness of the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
The Service Chiefs are also expected to give account of security expenditure deployed in the fight against Boko Haram and the inventory of the military hardware procured to fight the insurgents.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, and the Director, State Security Services, Mr. Ekpeyong Nsah are the Service Chiefs expected to brief the Senate on Thursday (today).
Earlier at the start of plenary on Wednesday, Senate President David mark urged the military to declare total war on Boko Haram.
Mark said this against the backdrop of the attack at the Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum, Yobe State which has now left over 50 students dead and over 79 others injured.
Mark said since the terror sect has refused to accept offers ofdialogue offered to them by the Federal Government, the military should declare a total war on them, while also calling on Nigerians to unite to defeat terror in all its ramifications.
