LAGOS – An official of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, says the facility is enjoying good patronage because of it is being well managed, an official said on Wednesday.
The Manager of the Stadium, Afolabi Shekoni, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the management had been proactive in attracting big events to the place.
Shekoni, while speaking on why the venue had become the preferred choice for the Federation Cup for four consecutive times, said the management solicited events to keep the place alive.
“The stadium offers what others cannot offer that is why it has become the rallying point for the Federation Cup.
“The security in the place is water-tight, especially during events, there are modern facilities like the Olympics-size swimming pool, the terraces and the tracks are all in good shape.
“In terms of spectatorship, there is no state in the country that can boast of football followership than Lagos State,” he said.
The manager, who regretted the low turnout of spectators on Nov. 23 at the stadium, said 12,000 spectators watched the 2014 Federation Cup finals at the stadium.
He said that for a stadium having 25, 000 seat capacity the 12,000 spectators recorded was not good enough for a match such as the Federation Cup.
He said that Gov. Babatunde Raji-Fashola had continued to promote sports in all facets for increased revenue in the state. (NAN)
