
Sundiata Post – The Thabo Mbeki Foundation has dimissed rumours that the former president has died.
Mzansi was shocked when rumours started circulating on social media on Wednesday, 3 January that he died.
But the Thabo Mbeki Foundation quickly dismissed the spreading fake news and told Mzansi that the former statesman is still alive and kicking.
Foundation spokeswoman Anga Jamela said the reports were false.
“The Thabo Mbeki Foundation is aware of recent, unfounded reports circulating on social media regarding the health of the patron of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, President Thabo Mbeki. We categorically deny these reports and wish to assure the public that President Mbeki is in good health,” she said.!
Jamela urged people to be cautious and responsible when engaging with online information, especially during a time when misinformation can spread rapidly.
“We appreciate your concern and ask that you rely on official channels for accurate information about president Mbeki’s well-being and activities,” she said.
Mbeki served as the second president after former president Nelson Mandela from 14 June 1999 to 24 September 2008.
The National Executive Committee of the ANC took a decision to recall him as president of the country on the weekend of the 19 to 21 September 2008.
