LAGOS – The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Saturday urged the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to intensify its efforts at curbing piracy in the country.
The Spokesman for TAMPAN, Mr Lambert Dike, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the commission had not done enough to curtail piracy in the country.
“In spite of the commission’s effort at curbing piracy in the country, the entertainment industry is still plagued with piracy challenges in film production.
“The commission needs to put in more effort to address the challenge,” Dike said.
He admitted that consumers were lamenting the poor quality of film production in the country, adding that film producers were equally concerned about the situation.
“This development is the result of piracy. The poor film production is not the fault of producers but piracy,” Dike said.
He said there was the need for the commission to train and retrain their staff to fight against piracy.
“We the theatre art practitioners are not enjoying our work, when we produce films, before we know it, is all over the market.
“While we are working, some people are there enjoying our labour, this is unfair and discouraging,” he said.
He urged Nigerians and other relevant agencies to join in the fight, adding: “It is an obstruction to the growth of the nation`s entertainment industry’’.
Dike assured that TAMPAN would collaborate with the government to achieve growth in the industry. (NAN)
