ABUJA – A former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Bolaji Ojo-Oba, on Wednesday in Abuja said there was nothing wrong with Nigerian football.
Ojo-Oba told newsmen that Nigerian football was just going through a difficult phase and Nigerians should rather be patient as “Nigerian football will soon regain its momentum’’.
He acknowledged that Nigerians were right to be disappointed with Nigeria’s inability to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Ojo-Oba however said it was not enough to call for an overhaul of the entire Nigerian football system.
“There is nothing wrong with our football. In life there is always a period of ups and downs. There was a time we were not doing well and there was a time we started doing well.
“If there are little problems, it does not mean that it is going down. It will still regain its momentum. But we need to exercise patience.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“And we need to keep praying for those in charge. I left NFA since 2010 but I have never for once said anything negative about them.
“If there is anything, I will call them on phone and we will discuss the way forward and that is the way it should be. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“Those in charge are human beings and they need our support. There is a new leadership, and we need to give them the benefit of the doubt to perform,’’ he said.
Ojo-Oba who was ending his time as staff of the National Sports Commission (NSC) as the Director of Federations and Elite Athletes Development said Nigerians should be positive.
“The continuous emphasis on Nigeria’s absence at AFCON will not solve the problem. We should look ahead.

“If we keep talking about our absence at AFCON, it will not undo what has been done. We should rather move on and look ahead on how to make things better,’’ he said.(NAN)
