- Take photographs of your parents. Take photographs of your wife, along with the children. One day you will be part of a story, the story of your children’s childhood. And they will wish there were more photos not just of them on their birthdays, but mom’s reaction to them opening presents on their birthdays.
- Get a 360 degree camcorder. It is like a little time machine. You can get a VR headset for $25 and put your smartphone in and it becomes a time machine. There are also 180 degree 3D camcorders. I took one of my daughter’s baptism and it feels like you are stepping back in time.
- You aren’t going to settle in and know yourself fully until your late 30’s. So realize everything else is practice up until this point. Do your best, but don’t ruminate over mistakes. We all make them.
- Aging takes humility, but it is far better than the alternative.
- If you get $100, save 30%. Spend 20% to get flowers for your wife, and use the rest to pay on one of your bills. Not using your credit card pays off in the long run.
- When it comes to your health, pay now or pay later. Spend the money now to eat nutritious food, or spend it getting a heart bypass and not being able to do what you want. Same thing with relationships. Invest in them. Don’t take for granted your relationships. They are like gardens, cultivate them.
- A very young baby cannot be spoiled with too much love. But not giving a child love when it needs it will damage your child in the long term.
- When it comes to disciplining your children, spanking and yelling work in the moment, but too much and they cause hidden resentment and hatred for the parents, which comes out later as authoritarian personality types.
- If you decide to abide by everything society wants you are going to be miserable. Pick and choose your battles. And those who cannot accept you for doing your own thing are the same people you wouldn’t be able to please anyway.
- Nobody is the perfect parent. If you lived with the “perfect” parent for a week you would see how often they imperfectly acted.
- You can have money or you can have your soul. But only by faith can you have both.
- Whatever someone accuses you of doing or feeling, that is most likely the thing they treasure the most. So if someone calls you greedy, most likely they are greedy. This is especially true if you have more money than them. Same thing with status. “For the abundance of heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34.
- If you don’t have compassion for others, how can you expect them to have compassion for you when you most need it?
