Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has asserted that he can bring peace to the South East region if released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Kanu made this declaration on Tuesday following the denial of his bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja.
Speaking to reporters, Kanu accused some government officials of benefiting from the prevalent insecurity in the South-East geopolitical zone. He stated, “I suspect that some people in government are complicit. They are making money with this insecurity. They know if Nnamdi Kanu is outside, in two minutes, this nonsense will stop.” Kanu urged anyone involved in violence in the name of IPOB to desist, promising that his release would swiftly bring peace to the South-East.
Earlier in court, Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since his extradition in June 2021 and is facing charges of treasonable felony, alleged mistreatment by the secret police and expressed concerns about a conspiracy to cause his demise while in custody.
