Bayo Bashir Ojulari has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
He is an experienced Nigerian engineer with expertise in petroleum, process, and production engineering.
Before this appointment, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company. Recently, Renaissance led a group of Nigerian energy firms in a major $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).
Ojulari began his career as the first Nigerian process engineer at Elf Aquitaine. In 1991, he joined Shell Petroleum Development Company.
Originally from Kwara State, he served as the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) from 2015 to 2021.
He studied Mechanical Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1985 to 1989. He is also a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and was on the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigeria Council) from 1998 to 1999.
Throughout his career, he has held managerial positions in Europe and the Middle East, focusing on petroleum, process, and production engineering, as well as health and safety.
In November 2015, he was appointed Managing Director of SNEPCo and General Manager of Deepwater operations. He also served on the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), where he oversaw onshore and offshore petroleum engineering, well engineering, project engineering, and technical integration of development.
Apart from his work in Nigeria, he has held roles in Europe and the Middle East as a petroleum engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.
