Lagos – The Tin-Can Island Container Terminal (TICT) Football team will lock horns with their Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) counterparts to kick off the 2016 Maritime Cup Competition at the National Stadium, Surulere on Tuesday in Lagos.
The Coordinator of the 2016 Ships & Ports Maritime Cup Competition, Eucharia Udoka, said this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
Udoka said that TICT, which was founded in 2006, “is making its debut in the Maritime Cup competition this year’’.
According to her, the Defending Champions, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the Nigerian Navy, who won the maiden edition of the competition in 2009, are drawn alongside NPA and TICT in Group A.
Udoka said that three-time champions, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the 2014 Champions, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) as well as the 2010 Champions, Micura Stevedoring Services Ltd. were drawn in Group B.
The coordinator said during the draws of the competition, that officiating of all matches would be handled by FIFA-badge referees attached to the Lagos State Referees Council.
She said, “Eight teams will be participating in the competition this year.’’
Udoka said that the annual competition was organised by Ships & Ports to rekindle friendship and camaraderie among maritime industry stakeholders.
