There was a heavy presence of security personnel in and around the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State over the scheduled supplementary governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday announced a supplementary election in the Council Area following non-conduct of the exercise in the area with All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winning 18 of the local councils.
The tight security is not unexpected in view of its volatility which contributed largely to the failure of the exercise to hold in the area.
Major political parties in the State had made last-minute consultations to woo voters in the council area to their side.
But the exercise scheduled to commence at 10am did not commence as planned as materials were delayed in arriving at 9.56 am.
Ad-hoc staff were seen waiting for the materials at the Local Government Headquarters.
