Lagos- The Chairman, National Panel on Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election, Mr Peter Obada on Thursday urged delegates to be orderly in order to have a free and fair election.
Obada gave the advice while addressing delegates shortly before the commencement of the election in Lagos.
He appealed to the delegates to be orderly so as not to lose all the credit they had earned for democracy in the state.
The chairman commended the people of Lagos for standing for democracy, saying charity must begin from home.
“It is on record in the history of the country that many your sons and daughters were the initiators of what sent the military packing in Nigeria.
“We look up to Lagos as a model for democracy, the state has acquired a lot of goodwill when we talk of democracy,’’ Obada said.
Chief Henry Ajomale, Lagos State Chairman of the APC, urged the delegates to vote according to their conscience.
He denied allegations of supporting a particular governorship aspirant, saying he did not have a preferred candidate.
Ajomale advised all the aspirants to accept the results of the primary election.
“APC primary is not a do or die affair, we are one family and only one person will emerge winner among the aspirants,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that security is tight at the Onikan Stadium venue of the primary election where 6,200 delegates are gathered to elect the party’s flag bearer in the 2015 election.
Delegates started arriving at the venue as early as 8.00 a.m., while accreditation started at 11.00 a.m., followed by voting, which was still still underway at 3.00p.m.
NAN reports that the delegates of the party are from the 20 Local Government Areas in the state.
The aspirants jostling for governorship on the platform of the APC include Mr Akinwumi Ambode, Mr Femi Hamzat, Mr Ganiyu Solomon, Mr Olasupo Shasore and Mr Abayomi Sutton.
Dr Leke Pitan, Mr Kola Kasali, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji and Mr Toyin Ayinde, are also among the aspirants. (NAN)
