Tiller docked for allegedly stealing handset valued at N120,000

Mararaba (Nasarawa State) – A 19-year-old tiller, Abubakar Yusuf, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, for allegedly stealing a handset valued at N120,000.

The defendant, who resides at Calvary Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is facing a count charge of theft.

The prosecutor, Agabi Auta, told the court that Suleiman Abubakar of same address with the defendant reported the matter at the Mararaba Police Station.

According to Auta, on Jan. 3 at about 11.00 a.m. while the complainant went out to buy some food items, the defendant entered his room and stole the handset.

The prosecutor said the defendant also stole N10,000 and some clothes.

Auta said the defendant was arrested by neighbours while trying to escape.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code, which attracts five-year jail with fine or both.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Yusuf Yaqub, granted a N100,000 bail to the defendant with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Jan. 25 for a mention. (NAN)
