Abuja (Sundiata Post) – President Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government of Nigeria has called for the de-escalation of hostilities between Isreal and Hamas that started at the early morning of Saturday, 7th October 2023.

The federal government’s reaction was contained in a statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf M Tuggar, a copy of which was made available to Sundiata Post.

According to the statement, the cycle of violence and retaliation that the current escalation has assumed, only serves to perpetuate an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population that bears the brunt of every conflict.

The federal government therefore, called on both sides to exercise restraint, prioritize the safety of civilians and give room for humanitarian considerations.

The Nigerian government therefore called for peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue.

Sundiata Post recalls that the Isreal death toll from the Hamas surprise attack on Saturday has surged to more than 200 and more than 1,000 wounded in the assault that began at dawn.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to avenge what he said was a “black day” for Israel, saying the army will strike back at Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza with full force.
