President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments to strengthen the leadership of River Basin Development Authorities under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and several other federal institutions.
According to a statement released on Friday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, these appointments are aimed at improving governance, water management, and rural development across Nigeria.
At the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority in Abeokuta, Sowade Oluwakayode Adebayo has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Engineering Services, replacing Engr. Julius Oloro. Similarly, Chucks Erhire will take over as the Executive Director of Engineering Services at the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, succeeding Dr. Austin Nonyelim Izagbo.
For the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority, President Tinubu appointed Sunday Kubba Hassan as the Executive Director of Planning, replacing Chief Chris Tarka, while Engr. Okibe Timothy retains his role as the Executive Director of Engineering.
The President urged the new appointees to uphold integrity and work towards enhancing water management and rural development for the benefit of Nigerians.
In addition to these appointments, President Tinubu has named Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Furthermore, Hon. Fatuhu Mohammed Buhari from Katsina State has been appointed as the Director-General of the National Agricultural Seed Council.
The President also approved the appointment of several APC state chairmen and other political figures as board chairmen of various federal institutions. Some notable appointments include:
- Mallam Muhammad Massan (Bauchi State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin.
- Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas (Kano State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service.
- Dr. Austian Agada (Benue State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, National Agricultural Seed Council.
- Hon. Macdonald Ebere (Imo State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos.
- Ubong Stephen Ntukekpo (Akwa Ibom State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, National Institute for Freshwater Fish, New Bussa.
- Chief Emma Eneukwu (APC Deputy Chairman, South) – Board Chairman, National Automotive Development Council.
- Aminu Musa Bobi (Niger State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, National Library of Nigeria.
- Pharm. Abass Olayide (Oyo State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kaduna.
- Hon. Donatus Nwankpa (APC National Working Committee Member, Abia State) – Board Chairman, Project Development Institute (PRODA).
- Comrade Mustapha Salihu (Adamawa State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
- Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu (Abia State APC Chairman) – Board Chairman, National Parks Headquarters.
The appointments, which cover key institutions in sectors such as agriculture, health, environment, education, and media, are expected to enhance governance and service delivery in these agencies.
