Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Plateau State Chapter, Comrade Mohammed Tali has said that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the group to intervene in the genocide that has bedeviled the State in the past three months.
Tali, who is also the National Chairman ACF screening Committee, said the killings in the State where over 300 persons lost their lives will never be allowed to repeat itself.
The ACF stalwart stated this on Monday in Jos when the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum paid a courtesy call to the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, received by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Josephine Piyo.
“I was directed by President Tinubu to go to Plateau and intervene in the crisis that has led to the killings”, Tali said while presenting his speech to the Deputy Governor.
He said that Tinubu regretted that the killing was too much and wanted a lasting solution to the frequent death.
Proffering solutions to the lingering crisis, he said the killings culminated in an expansionist agenda, adding that the Fulanis who came to settle in Plateau through nomadic farming have had a battalion of children who now graze into villagers’ farmlands.
“When they are confronted, they will kill the villager who attempted to stop them from grazing in their farm.
“So that brought lack of trust between the natives of Plateau and the Fulanis”, he said.
Tali revealed that the Fulanis in Nigeria have expanded to between 60-65 million people, saying that it is nothing compared to the number of the Plateau people and that is why they are exercising dominance.
He however lamented the deficiency in the security architecture of the country, saying that the country is under a cabal.
Responding, Piyo who represented the Governor called for the arrest and prosecution of gunmen that have continued to unleash mayhem on citizens.
Piyo said that the arrest and prosecution of the criminals would serve as a deterrent to others who may want to attack other communities in the future.
She regretted that a large number of bandits were moving from one place to another without being apprehended and called on the security agencies to intensify efforts towards curbing their activities.
She however, thanked President Tinubu for sending the ACF to tour troubled states in efforts to curtail the conflicts and other laudable steps taken to end the killings.
