Tinubu orders arrest of Benue killers, demands immediate end to violence

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to arrest everyone responsible for the recent wave of killings and violence in Benue State.

Describing the bloodshed as senseless, President Tinubu said he had been fully briefed on the disturbing developments in the state and stressed the urgent need to stop the violence.

Naija News reports that the President made this known in a statement shared via his official 𝕏 account on Sunday, following fresh attacks in which over 200 people were reportedly killed.

He also urged Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State to lead reconciliation efforts and begin open dialogue among the groups involved in the conflict. Tinubu emphasized that such steps were necessary to restore peace and unity.

In addition, he appealed to political and community leaders in Benue to avoid inflammatory remarks and instead work toward lasting peace through fairness and justice.

“I have been briefed on the senseless bloodletting in Benue State.

Enough is enough! I have directed the security agencies to act decisively, arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict, and prosecute them.

Political and community leaders in Benue State must act responsibly and avoid inflammatory utterances that could further increase tensions and killings.

This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue.

Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders across the divides work together in harmony and differences are identified and addressed with fairness, openness and justice.”
