President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that the summit is focused on advancing “Mission 300,” an ambitious plan to provide electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030. The event is being organized by the Tanzanian government, in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank.
The statement explained, “In Dar es Salaam, African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups will strategize to accelerate energy access across the continent. The summit will serve as a platform for sharing expertise, resources, and strategies to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.”
Discussions will center on topics such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, increasing access in underserved regions, and encouraging private sector investment.
The summit will span two days. On the first day, participating nations, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, known as compacts, which outline their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years. On the second day, Heads of State will sign the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, solidifying a shared roadmap for achieving Mission 300’s goals.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access and emphasizing the country’s leadership in Africa’s energy sector. He will also showcase Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and its strategy for integrated energy delivery on the continent.
The President will travel alongside key officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government representatives.
This trip follows President Tinubu’s recent participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 in the UAE. He is expected to return to Abuja after the summit.
