Nigeria’s newly acquired presidential jet has reportedly arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The luxurious Airbus A330, valued at N150 billion, landed at 8:29 pm on Sunday, August 19. This arrival precedes President Tinubu’s scheduled departure to France today for a brief work stay.
The purchase of this jet has sparked controversy, with many criticizing the hefty price tag amid economic hardships and inflation. However, the government defends the acquisition, citing its necessity for diplomatic and national security purposes.
The Airbus A330, one of three jets recently seized by a French court over a dispute involving Ogun State, was released by the Chinese company Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited as a goodwill gesture due to President Tinubu’s upcoming meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Originally repossessed by a German bank from an Arab prince, the aircraft was later acquired by the Nigerian government. The jet, which was seen in July in France with the President’s seal, includes a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, an office, a conference room, and first-class and economy seating.
