Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature has said the economic hardship currently faced in the country is a temporary measure taken to secure a more prosperous future for the citizens.
Describing it as a surgery, which is being administered with the right drugs, he encouraged Nigerians that very soon, the effect of the drug taken will yield the desired result.
Bature stated this at the weekend in Jos while interacting with our correspondent on the state of the nation with a particular reference on President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.
“We are going through a surgery without anesthesia and the blade, but I believe that the drugs being applied will heal the country in the shortest time.
“The President said the beginning will be tough, but we must go through this storm and come out stronger at the end. I believe in the President and his sincerity of purpose”, he said.
The APC Chairman while lauding Tinubu for taking steps to ameliorate the sufferings of the people before things get better, said the extra allocations given to State Governors and Ministers are in the right direction.
He said if the more money being given to them is applied reasonably and according to the dictates of the constitution, there will be an appreciable development.
“The extra allocations given to States as a result of the subsidy removal should be used to boost human capital development as well as infrastructure because people are going through hard times.
“Basic amenities such as security, agriculture, potable water, and the creation of jobs are highly needed at these times. Only these can justify the extra allocations given to Governors”, he said.
Bature appealed to Nigerians to be more patient of President Tinubu, adding that he believes in the integrity of his leadership style.
“One day and very soon we will all agree that we made the right decision by voting the APC led Tinubu’s administration into power”, he said.
When asked how it feels to be in the opposition in the State, the APC Chairman said in democracy it is part of the game to be in the opposition.
“Once you aspire to be in leadership and you don’t get it, the next stage is to be in the opposition if you must continue with politics.
“In Plateau today, we have found ourselves in the opposition and we must accept it”, he said.
On the demise of the former State APC Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang, he said it was quite unfortunate, adding that Namang was a party man who was ready to face the hurdle of opposition.
Namang was ready to tell the ruling party in the State the right thing to do, so as to wake them up if they are not doing what the people want”, he said.
