Jalingo – The Tiv Community in Taraba has urged Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue to liaise with Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba to bring permanent peace to warring border communities in the two states.
The President, Taraba Tiv Cultural and Social Association, Mr James Nungwa, made the appeal at a news conference on Tuesday in Jalingo.
Nungwa was reacting to recent killings and abduction of some people in Takum local government area of Taraba.
He expressed shock that in spite of steps taken by Ishaku to restore peace, some elements were making it to appear as if the Tivs and Jukuns do not want to embrace peace.
Nungwa alleged that there was recent killings and abduction involving Tivs and their Jukun brothers in border communities.
He described the abduction as handiwork of some miscreants who were bent on causing crisis to enable them loot property.
“No right thinking Tiv man of Taraba or Jukun man would want to take arms against anybody at this critical time that government is doing its best to return and resettle internally displaced persons.
“We condemn the killings and abductions in Takum and want to assure our Jukun brothers, the government and the entire state that we shall get to the root of the matter,’’ he said.

Nungwa said this would be done to assist government find lasting solution to the problem and urged the people to remain calm as efforts were on to ensure peace in the area. (NAN)
