ADO-EKITI – Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti, the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has pledged to ensure that due process is followed in the conduct of the exercise.
Mr Lazarus Apir, a Project Director in the group, made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that no fewer than 320 officials of the group were already in the state to monitor the election in the 16 local government areas.
Apir added that while 300 officials of the group would be stationed at specific polling units across the state, the remaining 20 would work as mobile supervisors.
He also said the TMG would use “ Quick Count Observation Methodology ’’ and modern technology in monitoring the election.
Ekiti-based NBA/NUJ observer group, also monitoring the election, held a news conference on Friday calling for credible election.
According to the NUJ chairman in the state, Mr Laolu Omoshilade, and NBA Chairman, Mr Joseph Adewunmi, who jointly addressed the press, it is only when the electorate’s votes are allowed to count that disputes and violence will be checked. (NAN)
