ABUJA – Ahead of the 2015 general election, the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), a civil society organisation, on Friday began intensive training of its members for election observation.
The group said in a statement issued in Abuja that the members would be trained to train others for the deployment on its Quick Count Methodology for the observation of the polls.
According to the statement, the three-day training is being facilitated by a consortium of organisations, including the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and World Learning, among others.
It said that participants would go through the Mill of the Quick Count Methodology, how to administer the funds and pre-election observation, among others.
It stated that participants included Zonal Programme Officers and the accounting team who would in turn step down the training to Quick Count State Coordinating Committees (SSCs).
According to the statement, the SCCs will step down the training to the 774 Local Government Area Supervisors.
The statement quoted the Chairman of TMG, Mr Ibrahim Zikirullahi, as saying that the programme was of utmost importance because it focused on personnel that would train the field workers.

Zikirullahi said that the objective of the training was to enhance the skills and capacity of those implementing the Quick Count project and to ensure a resounding success of the 2015 general elections.
“Quick Count is known as the Parallel Vote Tabulation, they are thousands of non- partisan stationary observers deployed to polling units to keep eye on the election.
“These processes include opening of polling units, voter accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, announcement of results, amongst others,’’ it said.
TMG is a coalition of over 400 civil society organisations. (NAN)
