Lagos – Mr Ayodele Ogungbiye, the Head of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) team at the ongoing Lagos trade fair, on Tuesday said goods worth thousands of naira were seized daily at the fair.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that there was a directive from LCCI that items being illegally hawked at the fair ground should be seized.
The head of KAI team said that this job was being done effectively to ensure that the trade fair environment was orderly, organised and neat.
Ogungbiye said that the LCCI had earlier ordered that seized goods to be returned to owners by 6.00 pm daily.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He, however, said that another directive was given that the goods be seized till the end of the fair due to exhibitors’ non-compliance with the rules.
Ogungbiye said the exhibitors were told not to hawk anything within the premises of the fair which they violated outrightly.
” We seize goods worth thousands of naira daily and the exhibitors wouldn’t just comply with the rule.
” We have been told to hold on to every goods seized from today till the end of the fair instead of giving them back daily like we used to.
”There was an agreement before the fair that every exhibitor must stay on their stand to display their stock.
” We have seized cooked foods from food hawkers who never registered with LCCI.
” We have seized goods from Coca-cola, Calypso, Indomie, Dansa and several other exhibitors who have gone beyond their tents to hawk,” Ogungbiye said.
Mr Wasiu Kamorudeen, one of those whose materials were seized, said he was sorry to have allowed his girls to hawk and wished his goods could be returned.
” We were told truly not to hawk, but we have been here since Friday and have not recorded N500,000 sales.
” This made me employ girls to help us hawk around the trade fair,” Kamorudeen said. (NAN)
