LAGOS – A trader, Blessing Ublik, 31, was on Monday in Lagos arraigned for allegedly obtaining N1million under the pretext that she was going to supply some cartons of tin-tomatoes to the complainant.
Ublik, who resides in Somolu, appeared before the Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of : conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretences
The accused, however, said she was not guilty of the charges.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 23, at about 10 a.m., at the Green Life Pharmacy, Ilupeju, Lagos state.
Iseghede said that the accused obtained N1million from one Mr Aminu Aliyu under the pretext that he would supply him some cartons of tin- tomatoes.
Iseghede said that the accused failed to fulfill her part of the contract.
“Ublik did not supply the goods as agreed and has refused to refund the money she collected from the complainant,” the prosecutor said.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes 15 years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of obtaining by false pretences.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Adeeyo, granted the accused N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till June 24 for mention. (NAN)
