Trader charged to court for stabbing apprentice with broken bottle

LAGOS – A trader, Chizoba Sunday, 32, on Monday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with assaulting his shop attendant with a broken bottle.
Sunday, who resides at Bamgboye Street, Ilaje, Oyingbo, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.
The prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 4 by 9.40p.m., at No. 16, Bamgboye St., Ilaje, Oyingbo Lagos.
According to Odigie, Sunday and others now at large, beat up one Nwonyike Chukwudi, his apprentice of the same address, and stabbed him with a broken bottle.
He said that Sunday was irked by Chukwudi’s use of a phone, which led to an altercation and the eventual assault.
Odigie said that the accused stabbed the complainant with a broken bottle on the head and shoulder, which caused him to sustain grievous injury.
The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened Sections 409 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr. K.O Ogundare, granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety, who must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case to Jan. 12, 2015 for continuation of hearing (NAN)
