Mararaba – A 37-year-old trader, Chidi Israel, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, for allegedly beating his neighbour’s wife, Mrs Chioma Michael.
Israel, who resides at Aku village Base 1 Mararaba, Nasarawa State, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of assault, intentional insult and intimidation.
The Prosecutor, Agabi Auta, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 19 at his residence.
He said that Michael reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, Mararaba on the same date.
According to Auta, the defendant assaulted his co-tenant, Michael by beating her to a pulp after an argument.
The prosecutor said that the complainant was saved by neighbours who were at home, while the case was reported to the police and the defendant was arrested.
Auta said that the offences contravened Sections 240, 399 and 397of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter until Sept. 5 for hearing.
