ONDO – Traders in Laje and Likapala markets in Ondo town on Monday appealed to Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State for financial assistance in the form of soft loans to boost their businesses.

The traders, who were  mainly women, made the appeal at  a meeting with Mr Fred Daropale, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Facilities Management.

The meeting held at  the Lipakala/Laje Junction market.

Mrs Sileola Akindojutimi, who spoke on behalf of the traders, said loans had been given to some of their colleagues  in other  markets by the state government.

Akindojutimi  urged the governor to extend such gesture  to the traders in their markets too.

While commending the state government for the construction of neighbourhood markets across the state, Akindojutimi also called for  adequate security in the facilities  to ensure safety of the  wares

Daropale, who is also the chairman of the Market Management Committee, urged the women to cooperate with the state government by ensuring that the markets were kept clean always.

He warned  that  government would not condone any act  of default in the payment of rents of stalls .

The governor’s aide assured the traders that their request would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

According to him, government has made all the necessary provisions in the markets to make them conducive for the traders and other stakeholders .

“You are expected to cooperate with the government which showed so much love and passion to transform the filthy  market environment to modern and decent premises devoid of filth and disorderliness ,” he said. (NAN)
