BENIN – Traders in the Upper Mission Area Market in Benin have decried the non-evacuation of refuse in the market, saying that the refuse constituted serious health hazard to them.
The traders told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benn on Thursday that they were disappointed that the refuse collectors failed to evacuate the refuse in the market.
NAN reports that the dump site at the market is over flowing with refuse and emitting odour.
Mrs Aruke Okhiria, a fish seller, said that the refuse collectors had not been seen in the market for a very long time.

“We, the traders are no longer enjoying the services of the waste collectors for quite some time now; honestly we are worried over the situation.
‘’The smell from the dump site is really making us sick; it is quite disturbing and dangerous,” she said.
Mr John Odion, a textile materials dealer, said that in the past, the refuse collectors were so impressive in evacuating refuse from the dump site.
“The smell coming out of the dump site can be very dangerous to our health and that of our customers.’’
Mrs Grace Alegu, who sells cosmetics, said that the traders had made several attempts to reach the refuse evacuators without any positive result. (NAN)
