ONITSHA – The Electronic International Market in Onitsha has pledged to partner the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in its drive to rid the market of fake products.
The new Chairman of the market, Mr Izuchukwu Okoye told newsmen on Monday in Onitsha that his administration would meet with Director-General of SON to actualise the plan.
“We are tired of those few giving the union and the market bad image by re-packaging or outright selling of substandard products to customers.
“I know we might step on toes, but it should be for the benefit of the future of this market.
“By the time we do a total clean up in the market, the South-East would be free from such ugly stories,’’ Okoye said.
He warned against all forms of touting in the market and urged traders to cooperate with the new executive in moving the market forward.
The Secretary General of the market, Comrade Damian Ogudike, described the new chairman as one capable of restoring sanity in the market.
“As a former Chief Security Officer of the market, Okoye did not record any theft in the market in his four-year tenure,’’ he said. (NAN)
