LAFIA – Traditional rulers in Nasarawa State have pledged to support the government in the distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets in all the local government areas in the state.
Malam Isa Mustapher-Akwai, the Emir of Lafia and the Chairman, Nasarawa State Traditional Rulers Council, made the promise on Wednesday in Lafia, when he played host to the staff of Malaria Action Programme.
He said the council had set machinery in motion, to enhance the campaign on the preparation of the distribution of mosquito nets in the state.
“The royal fathers in the state will collaborate with health workers in their respective areas so as to make the distribution a success.’’
He urged members of the public to cooperate with health officials and provides them with the needed information for the success of the exercise.
Earlier, Technical Consultant, Malaria Action Programme in the state, Garba Umar, said the visit was to inform the royal fathers of the plan to distribute mosquito nets. [eap_ad_2] “We have concluded plans to distribute over 1.6 million long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets in the state,” he said.
“We have already deployed our staff to the state to embark on house to house campaign and take inventory of all the people,” he said.
He said the records would help and guide in the distribution of the nets.
Umar said the distribution of the nets under the Presidential Malaria Initiative was meant to replace the nets distributed in 2010.
According to him, the house-to-house distribution of the nets will commence on Oct. 10 and end on Oct. 15. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
