Lokoja- Several motorists plying the Abuja-Lokoja highway were on Sunday held up for hours due to heavy traffic on Murtala Mohammed bridge on River Niger.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the area, reports that vehicular movement was restricted on both lanes on the busy dual carriageway.
The gridlock was caused by ongoing rehabilitation of bad spots on the road being undertaken by FERMA.
Mr Godwin Omiko FRSC sector commander in Kogi, told NAN that the organisation drew the attention of FERMA to the bad spots on the highway which had been responsible for several accidents.
He added that the FRSC had deployed more men to the area to assist to restore normalcy on the road.
Omiko urged motorists to show understanding and bear with FERMA to enable it fix the bad spots.
He explained that rehabilitation of the bad spots would help to reduce accidents on the highway during the Christmas and New Year festivities. (NAN)
