Lagos – A 32-year-old travel agent, Ahmed Jimoh, on Tuesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding three U.S.Visa applicants of N150,000 each.
Jimoh, who was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on fraud and theft, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Antonia Osayande, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in October 2019 at 44, Jimoh Odutola St., Surulere, Lagos.
Osayande said that the defendant also stole the visa applicants’ international passports.
“Jimoh obtained a total of N450,000 and three international passports from Mrs Moyosore Akinlolu, Mr Bolaji Oluwasanya and Mr Osagie Achioya, on the pretext of helping them to procure U.S.A. Visa.
“The defendant failed to get the visa for them and did not return their money and their international passports,” she said.
Osayande noted that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 (1)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. I. Adelaja, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 24 for hearing.
