Enugu- An Enugu High Court on Wednesday adjourned till Feb. 19, the case of one Ezinne Agbo charged with murder of her husband.
Justice Catherine Nwobodo adjourned the case following the inability of the prosecution to bring its witnesses to court.
She directed the prosecution to bring the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) or other witness to the court on the adjourned date.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police had arraigned Ezinne over alleged murder of Mr Charles Agbo, on Dec. 12, 2012.
The police said that Ezinne murdered Charles at their residence at Nchatancha- Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.
When the case came up for trial on Wednesday, the prosecution counsel, Mr E.A Nwafor, said that he was handicapped because of the failure of IPO to come and testify.
“My Lord, I will request the court to summon the IPO, Mr Aloysius Okorocha from Emene Police Station, to come and testify before the court.
“I have tried to lure him to the court for his testimony on this case but to no avail,” Nwafor said.
Defence counsel, Mr Gregory Obasoha, frowned at the submission.
“I did not expect such antics from the prosecution counsel.
“My Lord, the business of the court is very serious; the adjournment does not worth its request; the prosecution counsel is not a new person in this profession.
“His inability to compel the IPO or any witness to the court signifies that the state has no evidence,” Obasoha said. (NAN)
