Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting at Umuahia, Abia State on Wednesday confirmed the election of Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe’s as elected senator representing Abia South senatorial district.
The election tribunal dismissing the petition brought before it by Chief Chris Nkwonta.
Sundiata Post recalls that Nkwonta had approached the court to nullify the declaration of the Senate Minority Leader as the winner of the February 23 poll for Abia South Senatorial District.
Nkwonta, who claimed to have won the majority of the lawful votes cast, urged the tribunal to declare him the winner.
Nkwonta closed his case after calling 33 witnesses, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its defence as the first respondent, after calling one witness.
Sundiata Post Recalls that Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, SAN defended the petition for the Senate Minority Leader.
Recall that Abaribe, who is the second respondent in the petition filed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance and its candidate, Mr Chris Nkwonta, closed his defence after calling four witnesses.
