The Joint Task Force (JTF) stationed in the Niger Delta, known as Operation Delta Safe, announced on Monday the successful rescue of nine individuals who were kidnapped by armed assailants on March 29 along the Ugheli-Patani stretch of the East-West road.
Rear Admiral John Okeke, the Commander of the joint military force deployed to the Niger Delta, verified this development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday evening. Okeke disclosed that during the operation, 10 suspected kidnappers were apprehended. Notably, among the rescued individuals were a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a Navy rating.
“In furtherance of our commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the Niger Delta Region, the courageous troops of the Joint Task Force South South Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), comprising elements from the Quick Response Force (QRF) of Headquarters OPDS, as well as Land, Maritime, and Air Components, successfully rescued nine kidnap victims on Monday, April 1, 2024,” stated Okeke.
“The liberated victims had been abducted on March 29, 2024, along the Patani-Ughelli Road in Delta State. Additionally, 10 individuals suspected to be involved in the kidnapping were apprehended during the rescue operation. Notably, among those rescued were a Naval Rating and an NYSC member,” Okeke added.
The JTF Commander issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the Niger Delta, emphasizing that there will be no sanctuary for them in the region. He affirmed the commitment of the troops to leave no stone unturned in creating a secure environment for the protection of lives and properties.
Okeke praised the troops for their bravery and dedication during the rescue mission, urging the public to continue providing valuable information to security agencies regarding criminal activities within their communities.
