Lagos – A 34-year-old man, Emeka Ogbogu, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s N98,000 and three phones valued at N150,000.
The accused, a truck driver who resides at 10, Sorinmade St., Ogba, Lagos, is being tried for stealing.
The offence, according to Police Prosecutor Raji Akeem, was committed on March 23 at No. 20, Oyatogun St.,
Ogba.
Insp. Akeem said the accused committed the offence while loading Coca-Cola into a truck for delivery to one of their customers.
Akeem alleged that while loading the soft drinks, the accused stole the three mobile phones valued at N150, 000 which were placed on the table in the shop of the complainant, Mrs Comfort Nwokede.
“After the accused unloaded the truck at the customer’s shop, the money was paid in cash to him and he removed
N98, 000 from it.
“The accused then called the complainant that the truck broke down on the way.
“And when the auto mechanic got there, it was discovered that the battery valued at N25, 000 was missing in
the truck,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to seven years imprisonment
on conviction.
The accused, however, entered a ‘not guilty’ plea.
Chief Magistrate Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi granted the accused a bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like and
adjourned the case until May 7.
