Ankara – Turkey had deployed fully equipped commando units as part of military reinforcements along its southern border with Syria, a military source said on Wednesday.
According to the source, military vehicles loading fully equipped commandos travelled to the Syrian border on Wednesday, near Reyhanli district of southern Hatay province.
The source said the new deployment was part of reinforcement for troops already stationed there.
The source added that “Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has deployed several batches of heavy weapons, including tanks and howitzers to Syrian border since last month, amid strained tension between Turkish Government and Syria-based Kurdish militants.
“Meanwhile, the military drill that started on Monday on Turkey’s southeastern border with Iraq Kurdish region is still ongoing.” (Xinhua/NAN)
