LAGOS – The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) on Monday revealed that two baseball players and a coach would represent Nigeria at the Major League Baseball (MLB) Elite Camp in South Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the players were among the 50 that participated at the MLB tryout held in October, to select players for the Elite Camp.
NBSA secretary, Kehinde Laniyan told NAN in Lagos that Abidemi Moses and Salami Adeola would represent Nigeria, while coach Influence Gwede would accompany the players to the programme in December.
“The MLB consultant that supervised the MLB tryout in person of Yinka Adewusi selected two players and a coach for the elite camp.
“They have started processing their visas to ensure that they get to South Africa in December and it will be bankrolled by the MLB,” he said.
Laniyan, however, expressed confidence that MLB would increase Nigeria’s slot to the Elite Camp in 2015.
“We have abundant talented young players and Nigeria is ranked among the top baseball countries in Africa.
“With this, I strongly believe MLB will select more players for the programme,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the MLB Elite Camp is a programme organised to give aspiring players the opportunity to ply their trade in foreign leagues around the world. (NAN)
