Sango-Ota – Two men were on Thursday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly assaulting an official of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on duty.
Ayeni Adeniyi, 48, and Eniola Olatunde, 19, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 23 about 2.45p.m at Eleidi Bright Estate in Ota.
Mustapha said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by beating the complainant, Ogunyemi Julius, with wood in the process of discharging his duty.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 351 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted each of accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and they must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 25 for further hearing.
