Abuja – The United States of America centre for African Peace and Conflict Resolution is seeking to partner with Wife of Nigeria’s President Mrs Aisha Buhari to strengthen peace building in Nigeria.
Prof. Ernest Uwazie, the Director of the centre, California State University, Sacramento, made this known when he led a delegation on a visit to Mrs Buhari at the State House on Friday in Abuja.
Uwazie said that the objectives of the centre was to promote peace building, gender equality as well as women’s empowerment which he said was captured in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
According to him, the centre has been following the humanitarian activities of the wife of the president, especially in the area of women empowerment and promotion of health and physical well-being of women and children in Nigeria.
He said that they were impressed by the immense contribution of Mrs Buhari in such areas, hence the need for partnership to promote peace building, especially among women in Nigeria.
The director also said that the centre operates two regional offices in Africa to cover the Francophone and Anglophone countries.
Responding, Mrs Aisha Buhari assured the delegation of a smooth working relationship in promoting welfare of women and children.
The wife of the president, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration, Dr Hajo Sani, she had been playing a significant role in promoting the health and physical well-being of women and children in Nigeria.
She said that as a mother, she had been doing her best to provide succour to women and vulnerable groups, especially in the areas of maternal health.
According to her, it is my desire to assist the less privileged as well as improve welfare of women and vulnerable children in Nigeria.
“I have also provided free medical care to life threatening diseases such as breasts cancer, and diabetes among others (NAN).
