U.S security agency contractor gets Hollywood treatment in the movie “Snowden”

New York  –   The story of National Security Agency contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden which captivated the U.S. in 2013 now gets a big screen Hollywood treatment in the movie; “Snowden”

“Snowden’’ is an upcoming American biographical political thriller film, directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald.

The film is based on the books; ‘The Snowden Files’ by Luke Harding and ‘Time of the Octopus’ by Anatoly Kucherena.

Snowden, 32, whose supporters said boldly exposed government infringements of piracy, fled the United States in May 2013 and now lives in Russia where he was granted asylum.

The U.S. government filed espionage charges against him for leaking intelligence information.

Snowden is played by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and is seen going from military training to joining the CIA before uncovering the NSA’s extent of spying on the American public and handing the information over to journalists.

The film also starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Scott Eastwood, and Logan Marshall-Green.

Others include Timothy Olyphant, Ben Schnetzer, LaKeith Lee Stanfield, Rhys Ifans and Nicolas Cage.

NAN recalls that the filming began on February 16, 2015 in Munich, Germany and the thriller was released on Wednesday April 27.
