MOSCOW (Sundiata Post) – The United States (U.S.) seeks normalisation of relations with the new government of Syria, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday.

“We are currently exploring normalising relations with Syria’s new government as you know, beginning with my meeting with President Ahmed Al-Sharaa,’’ Trump said at the Gulf-US Summit in Riyadh.

The meeting between Trump and Al-Sharaa in the Saudi capital was the first between a U.S. and Syrian leader in 25 years, the Washington Post reported.

On Tuesday, the White House said that Trump had agreed to “say hello’’ to Syria’s interim president on Thursday,  during his visit to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Trump said that he was going to order the “cessation of sanctions” against Syria to give the country a chance at greatness.’’ (RIA/NAN)
