Three Americans died near Mount Everest, according to Susan Parker-Burns, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu. She could not identify the three victims.
Ms. Parker-Burns also said in an email that a 10-member USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team was dispatched by military aircraft, along with 58 search and rescue workers from Virginia.

“Two U.S. Military Special Forces teams were in Nepal for training before the earthquake, and they are providing logistical and medical assistance to the Nepal Army,” she said. “Some are helping the Nepal Army at Ratna Park as the army sets up tents for those displaced by earthquake damage.
