The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held parallel governorship primaries in two locations in Anambra state to elect its candidates
One of the two factions, led by Sir Chukwudi Umeaba, elected Senator Ugochukwu Uba as its candidate for the November 6 governorship election
The other faction backed by the National Working Committee (NWC) with Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom, in attendance announced ex-Transcorp CEO, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, as it’s candidate.
Ozigbo scored 62 votes to beat his closest rival, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, who got 58 votes.
Senator Uche Ekwunife came third with 44 votes while former Vice President’s daughter Chidi Onyemelukwe got two votes.
At the other primary, which held at Saint Paul University field in Awka, Chairman of the electoral panel, Obidi Ebede, said 665 delegates were accredited with Uba scoring 275 votes
His closest rival, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, scored 114 votes, while the 3rd position went to Senator Uche Ekwunife with 56 votes
Others like Val Ozigbo 26, Obiora Okonkwo 44, Ubaka Okeke 42, Godwin Maduka 22 and Chris Azubogu 29 among others.
Four out of the aspirants were in attendance at the Paul University venue, including Chief Ubaka Okeke, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, Dr Ugochukwu Uba and Chief Jonny Maduaforkwa.
Also, former member, Board of Trustees BoT of PDP, Chief Chris Uba and many other chieftains of the party, were in attendance.
However, the Governor Ortom led Gubernatorial Electoral Committee which held another primary at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, had stalwarts like former Governor Peter Obi, in attendance
Others at the venue include Mr Val Ozigbo, Senator Uche Ekwunife Dr Obiora Okonkwo, Hon Chris Azubogu, Dr Godwin Maduka among others.
Edo Deputy governor and Secretary of Anambra governorship primary Electoral Committee, Comrade Philip Shaibu, had announced three aspirants withdrew from the race
The aspirants ,according to him, were, Mr Emeka Etiaba SAN, Dr Tony Nwoye and another he failed to mention.
